How far is San Francisco from Carnel in California?

I will be visiting San Francisco, and I would really like to visit some cute cottage of sweets in carmel...and i am obviously not familiar with the area, so i dont really know anything about it, but...is it a long drive? I would also like to visit pebble beach and pacific cove...how long of a drive? could i take a bus? subway? trolly? lol I really dont know, help? :)
