Democracy versus Theocracy who will win?

Will Iraq and Afganistan overcome backwards religious rulers and form functional democratic states? Will Sharia law undermine democracy in England? Will the spread of democracy in Iraq and Afganistan undermine the religious government in other middle eastern countries? I am backing democracy, most people reguardless of religion want to be free so I think in the long run religious governments will lose power. Whose side are you on?
